The First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan (CBOS), Al-Mu'tasim Abdallah Ahmed, has officially inaugurated the reactivation of the National Switch after a suspension lasting over three years. The launch took place in the presence of senior CBOS officials and Prof. Abdel Moneim Mohamed El-Tayeb, General Manager of Omdurman National Bank (ONB).
First Cash Withdrawal at Al-Sajjanah Branch
The National Switch services kicked off from ONB's ATM at the Al-Sajjanah branch, where the first cash withdrawal was successfully executed. With this step, ONB becomes the first bank to complete the technical integration with the National Switch, paving the way for the wider resumption of ATM card and Point of Sale (POS) services.
Restoring Shared Banking Services
The First Deputy Governor emphasized that this milestone marks the genuine relaunch of ATM services and shared banking operations across the country.
Meanwhile, the Governor of CBOS praised the dedicated efforts of the central bank's staff in collaboration with the Electronic Banking Services (EBS) company, which culminated in restarting the National Switch efficiently to fully restore banking services.
A Boost for Financial Inclusion
The General Manager of ONB expressed his pride in this achievement, noting that it represents a strong comeback for electronic banking services across the entire Sudanese banking sector, not just ONB.
He explained that ATM services will expand beyond cash withdrawals to offer a comprehensive suite of services designed to facilitate customer transactions, enhance financial inclusion, and support the national economy in coordination with all partners.
